Dimply

Dimply is a mobile app that gathers data from the users’ bank accounts and, with the help of AI, analyses their "money habits”. It then produces valuable insights and offers challenges in order to help them establish good habits and achieve their financial goals.

Challenge

Develop the frontend part of the application, building upon the existing architecture. The core team working on Dimply were short of time, so there was a bit of extra pressure concerning the deadlines. An extra challenge laid in the inability to access the final backend version, and Voypost had to work with mock data.

Solution

The Voypost team spent most of the time coding the user interface component behavior for Dimply; about 20% of the time went into setting up the app’s interaction with specific mobile devices (custom privacy settings, etc) and tying up components with backend via GraphQL.

Background

Dimply developers experienced troubles trying to find an appropriate team for the task until they came across Voypost, who’d managed to assemble an expert team and meet the technical requirements.

The development company that hired Voypost were not the stakeholders of Dimply; they were looking to scale their capabilities as fast as possible.

While the project is still in development, the Voypost team is able to surpass the quality of the client's current platform, much to the delight of the external stakeholders. They're particularly impressed with the team's efficiency in managing the project and deliverables. Voypost is quite efficient in terms of project management. They do daily standups and they like to work knowing that they have the next two weeks planned out. One of their strengths is estimating the amount of work and being efficient in delivering them.

Process

It took two developers and a QA engineer plus a Team Lead to close all of the design tasks ahead of the schedule.

To better adapt to the project, Voypost swapped a couple of team members at the early stage of development, which later turned out to serve the client well, although they were skeptical of the change initially.

The communication commenced in a traditional way: weekly meetups to sync up the teams, assign new tasks, report on the progress, and share the insights about possible improvements. Besides, the Voypost team were open to communication through Slack all the time.

As the client put it, Dimply is one of those projects that never finishes, so Voypost might still be involved in the future.

Outcome

The quality of the frontend design demonstrated by Voypost met the stakeholder’s expectations while their approach to the work processes and the ability to plan and deliver were recognized by fellow developers from the client’s company.

The backend development was carried out by the client company’s team, and because it usually takes more time to develop backend compared to frontend, Voypost finished all the tasks in time.

The app is not available to the larger public yet, but it is possible to request a demo at the official website. Even before the release, Dimply had made it to the top InsurTech Irish startups of 2022.
